A panel discussion focused on exploring the challenges and opportunities in adapting open source licensing to the unique context of blockchain technology. Experts from legal, technological, and blockchain backgrounds come together to discuss how traditional open source licenses can be evolved or newly created to suit the decentralized, immutable, and often anonymous nature of blockchain projects. They address issues like intellectual property, contribution attribution, and the enforcement of license terms in a distributed ledger environment. The panel aims to bridge the gap between open source ethos and blockchain innovation, ensuring that developers can collaborate effectively while respecting the legal frameworks that govern software licensing.

Hello

I am building Phylax, a new startup in hack prevention. Phylax will initially launch a free and open-source (AGPLv3) agent that enables developers to easily monitor their dapps by defining alerts in solidity! Instead of having to learn bespoke SDKs or use SaaS-based, closed-source systems, users can deploy Phylax and run assertions (alerts) about their dapps using the language and framework they already know: Solidity and Foundry. The tools that exists are either hard to use and expressive (developers can express any kind of alert over onchain state) or easy to use and very restricting. Phylax does both by leveraging the mental models the devs already have and the toolchains that everyone uses. That means that they can be productive in literal minutes, over hours or weeks that is usually required to setup a monitoring solution. At the same time, they can define onchain or offchain actions in case the alerts go off. Phylax Node will always be a free and open source piece of software, aiming to enable developers to offer a higher degree of security to their users. Phylax is currently in private alpha and will release soon.

Presented By:

Hello
Alex Murashkin
Head of Infrastructure

The problem of cross-chain interoperability has evolved into more than just moving crypto assets from one chain into another. Multiple protocols, such as Layer Zero, Chainlink CCIP, Alexar Network, Hashi, and others were developed in order to tackle the Web3 communication problem as the whole, which includes cross-chain invocation of smart contracts, synchronization of data between chains, and other use cases. The high number of new protocols designed (or still being developed) has led to a variety of designs: some protocols require a network of relayers and oracles, while others rely on a separate network (such as, Alexar). These designs are relatively new and not yet well understood. In this talk, we systematize and compare multiple designs and implementations of cross-chain protocols. We use examples of Layer Zero, Alexar Network, Hashi to compare properties of two groups: security and non-security. Security properties include: crypto-economic incentives, liveness assumptions, sustainability, denial-of-service tolerance, and others. Non-security properties include: cost for end user, latency of cross-chain call, and others.

We give AI true agency by letting agents autonomously create and transact. For this my hypothesis is that AI will make UIs and APIs widely available and in order for AI to realize its potential for value creation it needs to be banked. Once AI is banked we predict in the long term AI will make up the majority of all internet activity. I want to talk about the why banking AI agents is an important thing to do and show practical solutions we can use today.

The future of blockchain technology extends beyond the native cryptocurrency, focusing on the demand for tokens built on the network. While many discussions revolve around the movement of value through the native currency, there's a significant emphasis on tokens like NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and secondary tokens that facilitate their own economies, such as stable coins. NFTs play a crucial role by representing real-world assets like commodities, securities, derivatives, options, and more on the blockchain. As an increasing variety of assets are represented on the chain, the native cryptocurrency serves as a neutral form of capital. This allows anyone with internet access worldwide to use it for exchanging on-chain assets. What sets these units of account apart is their ability to be automated and exchanged between unrelated smart contracts. This dynamic creates an environment where parties from different countries, typically reliant on their own currencies and local banking systems, can trade with a neutral currency. They can leverage the blockchain network to exchange assets without navigating through the complexities of local banking, payment terminals, and the currencies of each party's residing country. Tokens can be programmatically managed and traded within automated services known as smart contracts. These smart contracts not only facilitate basic brokerage services with tokens but also interact seamlessly with other smart contracts. The native cryptocurrency acts as a universal form of value transfer in exchange for the assets being traded. While current NFT marketplaces predominantly feature digital images, the potential for more sophisticated tokenization opens the door for real-world assets to populate these marketplaces. These assets represent units of account that can be shared across different smart contracts, expanding the scope of blockchain technology beyond simple currency transactions.

Delphinus Lab open-sourced ZKWASM (https://github.com/DelphinusLab/zkWasm) in November 2022. With this, ZKVM developers can now generate ZK proofs for WASM applications (presented in ZKProof 5th Workshop held in Israel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzT7zHUuvm4). Since WASM is a native supported bytecode for modern browsers, the ZKWASM VM provides a potential way to port rich browser web applications onto Ethereum via ZK rollup. In April 2023 zkSummit, a proof of concept demo runs a WASM game in browser and then generates and submits proofs of it to a Ethereum verifier contract (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLZbfTWLGNI). After putting a few more months of efforts since then, by supporting customizable ZKWASM host circuits, continuation and some of the WASI specification, we are more confident to say that connecting browser application with Ethereum is not only possible but also practical via existing ZK techniques (ZKWASM).

Presented By:

Hello
Jakub Wojciechowski
Founder & CEO

Many of the Defi protocols rely on accurate pricing of user collateral. The most common approach is to use spot prices for all assets included in the collateral to estimate their market value. However, the spot price is only an approximation of the actual market price of all assets, as the liquidation process often involves additional slippage and fees. Redstone proposes a novel approach with multi-dimensional pricing that provides a two-dimensional curve indicating a price depending on the quantity of assets to be liquidated. The curve is generated in real time based on the liquidity available in the current market and any additional costs due to swap fees. This allows protocols to better price collateral, reduce risk margin and improve capital utilisation. During the presentation, I will describe the methodology used to create the multidimensional price. I will also use code examples to show how the data is formatted and how it can be used efficiently in smart contracts.

We are all building in an area of high legal and regulatory risk, yet most projects won't have a lawyer on the team until well after launch, and may only interface with legal teams in the context of fundraising. This session is designed to help early stage teams (just before or just after VC round) understand when they should seek legal counsel and how to work with outside lawyers to minimize expense and maximize impact. Topics to cover include: (1) how to find a lawyer who gets crypto; (2) when to bring in lawyers; (3) what is legal's role in risk assessment and business planning; (4) how to get what you're looking for from outside counsel; and (5) how privilege works in web3.

I want to present two different relevant topics that I have been working on since 2018. Navigating the Regulatory Spring in the EU: The Future Post-MiCA: In this session, we delve into the evolving regulatory landscape of the EU, particularly in the wake of what has been termed a 'crypto winter' but a 'regulatory spring.' I will guide you through the recent developments in EU regulations, focusing on the landmark Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework and what lies ahead. This presentation will explore the balance between consumer protection and fostering innovation, highlighting the significant advocacy efforts by various organizations to ensure an active dialogue with regulators. A special focus will be on the EU Manifesto, a collaborative effort by multiple associations, which was launched in November 2023 at an event with the EU Commission. This session aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state and future direction of EU crypto regulation, offering insights into how these regulations might shape the digital asset landscape in Europe. Blockchain for a Sustainable Future: In this session, we will explore the critical role of blockchain and other cutting-edge technologies in promoting sustainability and social impact. The discussion will start with the importance of trustworthy data for making informed decisions in sustainability actions, we will discuss the potential for carbon bonds and carbon credits, and how these tools can help avoid greenwashing. We will also delve into how blockchain can contribute to financial inclusion. A key highlight of this session will be the presentation of BC100+, an initiative under the patronage of the 77th President of the UNGA. BC100+ aims to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 to achieve the values enshrined in the UN Charter and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). BC100+ is an open initiative to a wide array of projects and seeks to foster collaboration across sectors. Attendees will gain insights into how blockchain can be a powerful tool for achieving sustainable development and creating a positive social impact on a global scale.
