We are all building in an area of high legal and regulatory risk, yet most projects won't have a lawyer on the team until well after launch, and may only interface with legal teams in the context of fundraising. This session is designed to help early stage teams (just before or just after VC round) understand when they should seek legal counsel and how to work with outside lawyers to minimize expense and maximize impact. Topics to cover include: (1) how to find a lawyer who gets crypto; (2) when to bring in lawyers; (3) what is legal's role in risk assessment and business planning; (4) how to get what you're looking for from outside counsel; and (5) how privilege works in web3.
