Designing and building sufficient decentralization in web3 remains elusive. We identify some of the common structures and design choices that lead to this, including the perception of incompatibility between ideological and practical decentralization. We react to the current state of DAOs and their purported utility within the rapidly evolving web3 domain. This high entropy state has led to uncertainty amongst builders and web3 thought leaders about the primary role of the DAO, and about what principles one ought to focus on during the design and build phases. We then guide the audience through developing a framework for how to think about building DAOs using the first principles of decentralization.
