We encourage developers, technologists, cypher punks, coders, crypto-economists, designers, makers, and the like to apply. Our ecosystem is bottom up. Emergent. A ground swell of diverse intelligences who are committed to #BUIDLing the decentralized future. The ETHDenver #BUIDLathon is about bringing together like minds around a common purpose. Distributed computing is the future, and Colorado is a leading community supporting this emerging technology. Our event is about empowering participants to shape this new world, while cementing the Rocky Mountain region and the State of Colorado as a thriving hub of blockchain innovation.

Note that we previously rebranded the event. We feel that “hackathons” are great technological experiences, but ETHDenver turned out to be so much more. Welcome to the ETHDenver #BUIDLathon + Community Gathering!

Education + Community = #BUIDL

2020 ‐ The Year We FLY

To join in the 2020 #BUIDLing, our spirit animal, the #Bufficorn, has invited its cousins from Mount Elbert & Mount Massive of the Sawatch Range; The PegaBufficorn.

#PegaBufficorns are masters of community & collaboration. They have built colonies throughout 142 countries worldwide. The Bufficorn know that if we seek to reach the masses with democracy & liberty, the #PegaBufficorn are key to this success.

Colorado #1 For BLOCKCHAIN

Colorado is a hotbed of innovation. We also are on the forefront of thought leadership in new organizational structures & business models to build a better world. As blockchain has emerged as the “next big thing”, entrepreneurs & technologists from all over the Front Range believe that a decentralized world is possible with this technology. We aim to make this a reality.

Frequently Asked Questions
ETHDenver is the largest Web3 #BUIDLathon in the world (formerly known as a hackathon) for Ethereum and other blockchain protocol enthusiasts, designers and developers. The 3 day event is open 24 hours a day with a wide variety of activities including talks and workshops by top blockchain influencers and experts. The purpose is to contribute to the global blockchain ecosystem, whether by #BUIDLing decentralized applications (dApps), contributing to or starting infrastructure level projects, writing documentation/tutorials/white-papers, designing UI/UX, or info-graphics. So bring your inner awesomeness and some friends. We’ll provide mentors, resources, and provisions.
Ethereum Denver has supported the region's blockchain community since early 2014, and is one of the meetup groups contributing to this event. With over 3,000 members, its goal is to provide opportunities for learning and connections. Along with its sister Meetups – Boulder Blockchain, Ethereum Boulder, and Rocky Mountain Blockchain – there are over 5,500 people registered to participate in regional events.
ETHGlobal is a series of international events aimed at #buidling the future of decentralization. It was launched officially at ETHDenver 2018. ETHDenver is a part of the ETHGlobal series.
The #BUIDL meme was introduced formally to the ETH community at ETHDenver 2018 and has stuck as the community wide rallying cry throughout the world. #BUIDL is the our response to the BTC (Bitcoin) community's #HODL. We think #hodling (holding) cryptocurrencies is important, but we think that #buidling (aka building) is much more important. Without #buidling the decentralized future, #hodling will be just a sport of vanity.
Anyone 18 and over (at the time of the event) can apply to participate in the #BUIDLathon. Applications are based on interest in blockchain technology and demonstrated ability to code, design or otherwise meaningfully contribute to a project. Applications from any corner of the globe will be accepted. PLEASE NOTE that non-technical contributors are welcome as well. If you have something you think you can add to the ecosystem – whether it's a knack for crafting white papers to explain dApps, a creative or artistic perspective, or an entrepreneurial vision – we'd welcome your talents and skills on one of the #BUIDLathon teams.
Yes. But not being 18 (legal adulthood in the US), you cannot legally agree to our application waiver. With parent/legal guardian consent and release you can attend with them (or a chaperone approved by your parent/guardian). For under 18 application information, please submit your application, selecting the under 18 option, and contact us at to finalize your application.
Anyone can apply to attend the workshops & speakers. It is a public event. All #BUIDLathon participants are also able to attend as part of their acceptance to the #BUIDLathon. You do not have to have any specific skills or abilities to apply. Just an interest in Web3 tech and the decentralized future. Due to restrictions on crowd capacity, not all applications for workshop & speaker tickets can be accepted.
Applications for ETHDenver 2020 will open on November 10, 2019 during the final day of ETHWaterloo 2019.
WAVE 1: Apply by November 30th prior to midnight & receive confirmation no later than December 1st by 9PM MT. // WAVE 2: Apply by December 20th prior to midnight & receive confirmation no later than December 21st by 9PM MT. // WAVE 3: Apply by January 15th prior to midnight & receive confirmation no later than January 16th by 9PM MT. // You may apply AFTER January 15th and we will approve applications based on availability. For best results, you must have your application submitted by January 15th. NOTE: If you are not initially accepted, you (or your team) will be automatically allocated to our waitlist.
If your application is allocated to the waitlist on Wave 1 or 2, you will be notified during Wave 3 acceptances, no later than January 16th, if we are able to accept you. If you are still on the waitlist after Wave 3, we may still have space to accept your application and will continue accepting people as space becomes available.
Absolutely! You can apply to attend the Workshop & Speaker events in addition to the #BUIDLathon. Note that those attending Workshops & Speakers events will not have access to the #BUIDLathon.
ETHDenver is free for approved applicants. We are currently working on a staking mechanism to reduce the "no-show" rate of applications. More information about "staking" will be available November 10th when applications open.
Unfortunately, no. We will do everything possible to allow as many people as we can to attend. If you show up to ETHDenver without being accepted via the regular registration & applications paths, we will be unable to allow you entrance to the event. There will be no exceptions to this policy due to liability restrictions. All attendees will receive a lanyard and wristband (which cannot be removed), to ensure no unauthorized persons gain access to the event.
Flights should be arranged to Denver International Airport. Our venue is conveniently located in the heart of the city, so transportation and access is simple and easy. The address is: Sports Castle, 1000 N Broadway, Denver, CO 80203. View additional hotel and transportation options on our Travel Page.
You need at least two to form a team. This is not a solo sport; collaboration is key. The max for any one team is 4 people. If you don’t have a team, there will be an opportunity to form or join one on location at the #BUIDLathon.
Additional 2020 Team Joining Details Coming Soon! Leading up to the ETHDenver #BUIDLathon, the Colorado blockchain community will host #BUIDL Week, where ETHDenver participants, sponsors, and community members will host events and stream live content and workshops. These events will be great opportunities to connect with others and chat about project ideas. See a full list of Colorado’s meetups here and consider joining one near you.

If you’re not a Colorado resident, we recommend looking for a blockchain meetup in your local region to connect with other possible teammates.

There’s a first time for everything. If you’re not an experienced developer, that’s quite alright. If you’re interested in learning, even better reason to come. We’ll provide mentors, resources and workshops to help you sharpen your skills and unleash your inner awesomeness. Be eager, coachable and open. You never know what you might be able to create.
We believe in a level playing field. As such, pre-existing projects are not allowed if you wish to be considered for prizes. You may, however, build a new feature for an existing project that is unique and standalone. Judges will make the final decision on whether a project will qualify for prize consideration.
The focus of all speakers and workshops will be on decentralization and all things blockchain – for example, development tools and practices such as Solidity, Vyper, testnets, state channels, tokenomics, and so on. The official schedule will be announced shortly before ETHDenver 2020. Regarding fun stuff, we will provide many activities to help you take effective breaks and reset your brain. There will also be ample opportunities for socializing and connecting with your fellow participants and #BUIDLathon contributors.
Please bring your own laptop computer. We will provide table, chair, power and a strong enterprise grade wifi internet connection. No desktop computers please.
ETHDenver is a live, in-person event only. We are unable to host individuals or teams who wish to compete virtually. It will be possible to watch the ETHDenver live stream online.
If you are in need of financial assistance for travel and wish to attend ETHDenver, please fill out the application form here. Please note that we have a limited amount of scholarships available. Each request will be evaluated on a case by case basis and will be awarded no later than January 16th.
Judging details for 2020 will be updated closer to the event. You can view details on ETHDenver judging here. Top rated teams will have the opportunity to present/demo their project on stage in front of the entire #BUIDLathon at our closing ceremony (also viewable globally via live stream). If you are interested in judging projects at ETHDenver, please apply here.
Top projects of the Open Track and Impact Track will receive a prize of $ETH and other prizes. Details will be announced at the event. Those competing in the Bounties Track will be judged by the projects offering the bounty.
Diversity encompasses the full range of experiential, ethnic, socio-economic backgrounds, countries of origin, sexual preferences, and gender orientations. We are truly a "big umbrella" community, and believe we're far stronger for having a rich variety of backgrounds and diverse intelligences.
The #Bufficorn is a magical fantastical animal that represents the collaborative spirit of ETHDenver. They live in communities atop Colorado's 14'er mountain peaks and strive to serve their communities above their own selfish interests.
The #Bufficorn makes quite a unique sound, "BUIDL!". It is solely responsible for the Ethereum community's rally cry. Those who subscribe to the community nature of the #Bufficorn will honor this incredible creature by replicating its call to action!
All #BUIDLathon participants will have beverages/snacks/food trucks provided for them. General attendees of workshops & speakers will have access to food-trucks during meal hours, however will bear their own expense.
ETHDenver will be rife with couches, chill spaces, bean bags and other resting amenities for those who wish to maximize hacking time and "power nap". We'll also have a relaxation room away from the action with additional places to rest your eyes. The official event hotel is the Art Hotel located 2 blocks from the venue, with a limited number of $159 rooms available. Additionally, the Sheraton has a limited number of $89 rooms available. Hotel and other details are available at the ETHDenver Travel Page.
Complimentary childcare will be available at ETHDenver 2020. ETHDenver is proud to be partnering with Nanno for this service, a Denver child care company who will take care of your Buffikiddos while you #BUIDL. Nanno's experienced professionals will oversee your child(ren)’s supervision at no cost to you from 8AM-8PM daily during the BUIDLATHON weekend only, February 15th-17th. Child care is not available during #BUIDL Week activities.

Nanno will be onsite at ETHDenver, so you don't have to worry about picking up or dropping off your children at another location. Our childcare area is connected directly to the main BUIDLATHON area at Denver's Sports Castle. Children will even be provided catering during their stay! ETHDenver 2020 will also have onsite nursing and pumping rooms available for mothers.

In order to ensure we are able to accommodate everyone who may need this service, please book your childcare for ETHDenver 2020 with Nanno today. Know you'll need child care at ETHDenver? Reserve now! Not sure? Book now anyway! We'd rather have more Nanno staff available than needed, than insufficient staff to accept your child, so please help us help you.

All childcare reservations for ETHDenver must be made by February 8th. Reservation Link Coming Soon
